Perle Releases Wireless Serial Device Servers

NASHVILLE, TN—August 11, 2015 —Perle Systems, a manufacturer of secure device networking hardware, today announced the launch of IOLAN SDS W Wireless Serial Device Servers

The desire to transmit diverse data types over a wireless network is growing. However, that data often originates in a device that does not support 802.11 WiFi. This is where a product like a Wireless Serial Device Server comes into play.

Image result for Wireless SerialIn a nutshell, the IOLAN SDS W securely transmits authentic RS232, RS422 and RS485 serial data over a wireless network. The application scenarios that can be built upon this are vast. Here are just a few.

Seamless Wireless Roaming: Equipment that moves around with a serial interface, such as fork lifts and automated guided vehicles, can maintain a continuous connection to network services that are part of Wireless Access Point infrastructure.

Secure Console Management over Wireless LAN: Enable administrators to securely access remote serial console ports on equipment such as PBX, servers, routers, network storage equipment and security appliances through a Wireless IP network. Sensitive data is protected through standard encryption tools such as Secure Shell (SSH) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). Access by authorized users is assured via authentication schemes such as RADIUS, TACACS+, LDAP, Kerberos, NIS and RSA Security's SecurID tokens.

Raw TCP or UDP Sockets over Wireless LAN: IOLANs can convert serial equipment data for transport either on a point to point basis or shared across multiple devices.

“Network administrators need a solution when a serial device is not fixed to a permanent position or running additional cable is impractical,” comments John Feeney, Chief Operating Officer at Perle Systems. “Wireless serial to Ethernet capabilities provides an entirely new level of flexibility and mobility to our customers and allows them to remotely connect, monitor and control their existing serial devices over a WiFi network.”
